How does a double chin develop?<\/h2>\n

Called submental fat in medical terminology, a double chin is caused by small fat deposits that build up on the neck – often due to poor diet and too little exercise<\/strong>. However, genetic predisposition<\/strong> can also inevitably cause a double chin. So even slim or athletic people can become carriers of the small neck fold. In such cases, it is not so much a case of fat accumulation but rather excess skin tissue<\/strong>. This can occur particularly in people as they get older: Over the years, the skin’s elasticity decreases as the body produces less collagen<\/strong>, which ensures healthy connective tissue and a firm complexion<\/strong>. If more fat is deposited under the chin with age, the sagging skin quickly gives way and the typical double chin develops. Ultimately, however, it is excess weight<\/strong> that is the main cause of the double chin in 90% of all cases. A fold of fat then gradually forms on the chin. As the skin stretches and more skin tissue<\/strong> forms as a result, the double chin becomes more and more noticeable. It is usually accompanied by a strong neck and a round face.
