With advancing age, many fat deposits, such as the malar fat body, are lost in the facial area. This usually makes the facial features look strained and older. Injections with autologous fat are a timeless method of restoring lost volume to the face. Foreign bodies or artificial substances can be completely dispensed with to build up sunken areas of the face. All that is needed is a filler made from the patient’s own fat. Autologous fat transplants are therefore a good alternative to injections with fillers such as autologous blood or hyaluronic acid. The cheeks, the nasolabial folds between the nose and lips, the temples and the lips themselves are suitable for treatment. For the transplantation of autologous fat, suitable fat deposits are required, for example on the abdomen or legs. Injections with autologous fat are an outpatient treatment that can be performed under local anesthesia. The fat cells are removed and prepared using a cannula – a specially designed needle. The tissue is then cleaned. After preparation, the body’s own fat is carefully injected into the selected region in a fan shape using a wafer-thin needle. In addition to fat transplantation into the face, the patient’s own fat tissue can also be transferred to the back of the hands, décolleté, breasts, buttocks, under scars and in the case of burns and stretch marks. Several treatments may be required to achieve the desired result. However, visible scars are hardly to be expected. The incisions on the selected area of the face are only minimal and should no longer be noticeable after healing and with appropriate protection.
