Types of scars

Which scars can be successfully removed?

Scar depressions (atrophic scars) are particularly well known as traces of acne. As they are mainly located on the face and are difficult to conceal, they make almost all those affected want a quick and permanent improvement in the appearance of their skin. The clearly visible depressions in the skin are caused by a lack of connective tissue.

In contrast, the connective tissue grows excessively in the case of bulge-like scars – so-called hypertrophic scars. While hypertrophic scars can still regress spontaneously within the first three years, keloids permanently change the skin and usually grow beyond the actual injury. This form of scarring often affects adolescents between the ages of 12 and 18 – presumably due to hormonal factors.
