Costs can be covered by health insurance companies
The Joint Federal Committee (G-BA) of doctors, hospitals and health insurance companies has decided that the treatment of lipoedema by liposuction from stage III can be a standard benefit of statutory health insurance under certain conditions. To this end, it must be proven that conservative therapy, for example lymph drainage, compression and exercise therapy, has been used consistently but unsuccessfully over a period of at least six months. It should also be noted that the patient must not be too overweight, i.e. if the body mass index (BMI) is below 35, the procedure can be carried out; if it is between 35 and 40, the excess weight (obesity) must be treated in addition to liposuction in order for the costs of liposuction to be covered by statutory health insurance.
